The story

We all have a few nights we still talk about.

You do not remember the goal. You remember the second after it. A chair falling over. Someone’s drink down your back. A stranger holding your face and shouting into it.

That is what we are all chasing. Not the result. The room.

We call it The Occasion.

Those nights got rarer, and nobody really noticed. The streams got better and the rooms got emptier. One friend moved cities. One had a kid. The plan that used to make itself now takes four messages and dies anyway.

So the chat goes quiet by half time. And you are alone at one thirty in the morning, volume down, so you do not wake anyone.

Then the ball goes in. Ninety fourth minute, the thing you waited two months for. Or the undercut works and he comes out in front with twelve laps left. You are on your feet in an empty room with nobody to grab.

Nobody talks about that part. Loving a club from far away is not hard because of the time or the money. It is hard because you feel something huge, and you have to swallow it on your own, and go to work the next day like it was just a game.

Sport has never been easier to watch. It has never felt this lonely.

Those nights were always accidents. Somebody’s flat, somebody’s cousin’s bar, a projector that half worked and a crowd that half cared. It was still the best night of the season. Imagine what it is when somebody actually plans it, and everyone in the room is there for the same reason you are.

Altium is being built by people who wanted that back. Fans who plan the week around a fixture. Who wear the shirt to a screening where nobody is watching. Who have crossed a city in the rain for a game they could have watched at home.

The sound right. The room right. No stag party in the corner, no music over the whistle or the lights going out, nobody asking who is playing.

If a match can still make your week or ruin it, you already know what a night like that is worth. If not, that is fine. This one is not for you.

In the making

Three things we always wished existed.

Scores

You know the feeling. Stuck somewhere you cannot watch, refreshing a page that says 1 nil and 63 minutes, which tells you nothing. Are we hanging on or are we comfortable. Did that goal come against the run of play. Is the safety car about to throw away a race we had won. We are building the scores we always wanted on those days. Enough to feel the game from your pocket, and then find out who else was living the same minute as you.

Community

Most of us found our people by accident. Someone knew someone, and suddenly you had a group who understood why a Tuesday night result mattered. That should not be luck. Private clans in your own city, small enough that people know your face and your take, and closed enough that you never have to explain yourself to a stranger who only turned up because the team is winning.

Events

Ask anyone about their best night as a fan. Almost nobody names a stadium. It is a room somebody put together, a screen that was slightly too small, and forty people losing it at once. Those nights usually happen by chance. We are building The Occasion properly, so they can happen on purpose, again and again, wherever you are.

That is all we are saying for now.

Football and Formula 1 first. More when we can do them properly.

The bar

We would rather be small and right.

Altium costs money from the first day.

Free would have been easier. It would also have meant a room full of people who wandered in, and that is the exact thing we are trying to get away from.

So we are starting with a small number of people who would have built this themselves.

The first ones in stay the first ones in. Your tag, your rate, what comes with it: set before the doors open, and closed after.

Even your friends will have to make their own case.

Details come with the invite. Not before.
